August 2nd, 1993 - Kurt Cobain’s letter to William Burroughs asking him to be a part of Nirvana’s music video for ‘Heart-Shaped Box.’ Cobain’s idea was to have Burroughs play an old man character on a cross who is pecked by crows. William would not appear in the video which began shooting a few days later. Kurt Cobain would finally meet his long-time idol in Kansas during an October tour in 1993.

Anonymous inquired:

wasnt that photo released a few months ago?

Mark (Spin magazine editor) dug it out of a box in March of this year and shared it over on his Facebook. It was from a shoot the guys did with Frank Ockenfels. It didn’t receive much coverage and I actually forgot about it until now as I was going through some things so I figured I’d share it.

August 6th, 1993 - Nirvana performs a benefit show at the King Performance Center in Seattle, Washington for The Gits’ Mia Zapata. It would be Nirvana’s last show as a three-piece before adding Pat Smear into the mix.

"We’re always doing benefits, we just played one for Mia Zapata. None of us knew her, but we thought, ‘this is where we live, and this is a terrible thing that happened.’ And it’s the least we can do, to play an hour, give something back to the community." - Krist Novoselic.
