“She’s [Frances Bean] amazing! One of the best things that ever happened to me, and very stabilizing. but don’t, um, make it seem like I’m all rich and married and settled. I mean, I am, but…” - Kurt Cobain, 1993.
Kurt’s idea for the video Sliver, which was shot in his garage, was to fill up the garage with his possessions to make it look like his old apartment. Frances Bean (the child in the video) was made to look like she was dancing as Kurt cut armholes in a big piece of cardboard, placing Frances in front of it and putting his arms through, holding her up and moving her. The video was created to promote “Incesticide.”
August 23rd, 1992 - cancelled show, the Washington Music Industry Benefit in Seattle. Kurt & Courtney were anticipating their daughter’s birth. The show was rescheduled for September 11th, 1992.
“We wanted to have a baby. We definitely wanted to have a baby. But not at that time. It happened too soon. I really wish it could have waited. But, then again, I don’t know if we’d have had Frances. Every sperm is different, and I’m really glad we had Frances. I’m totally happy about my family situation.” - Kurt Cobain, 1993.
“I haven’t had the chance to see if it affects me musically [becoming a father] - I haven’t been writing songs recently. I haven’t attempted to write a song for months. The biggest impact of having a child is personally. I’ve always been chronically depressed, or at least pessimistic, for a part of each day. Now I only have to see Frances for 10 minutes and my spirits are lifted so high I feel like a completely different person.” - Kurt Cobain.
Courtney: “We have a nanny named Jackie. She’s been working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I always knew I that I wanted a nanny, pretty much from France’s infancy.”
Kurt: “I always wanted to be a professor. Nanny and the professor.”
Courtney: “Yeah, I get the joke. It’s kind of like your Michael Jackson joke at the MTV Video Music Awards. Kurt sometimes tells bad jokes. Sometimes he tells them to 20 million people.”
“While I’m generally silent on the affairs of my biological mother, her recent tirade has taken a gross turn. I have never been approached by Dave Grohl in more than a platonic way. I’m in a monogamous relationship and very happy. Twitter should ban my mother.” - Frances Bean Cobain.
