Kurt puts his design to use and creates the custom Fender Jaguar/Mustang guitar, titled as the ‘Jag-stang’.

Interviewer: How many models are there? And can I buy one?
Kurt: I don’t know. I don’t know if it’s gone into production yet. I don’t know if it will be available for the public. It’s up to them to decide. But what I basically, well, what I did is I took a picture of a Mustang, a Polaroid picture of a Mustang and a picture of a Jaguar and then cut them in half and glued them together and told them to build that. So that’s what it is. It’s the Jag-Stang.

Fender to Sell Collectible Replicas of Kurt Cobain’s Guitar

In honor of seminal album ‘Nevermind’s 20th anniversary’, Fender is releasing a custom-designed collector’s edition Jaguar guitar modeled after the special 1965 edition unit that Kurt Cobain used throughout Nirvana’s early ‘90s heyday.

Priced at $1,849.99, the Kurt Cobain Jaguar aims to replicate the legendary singer-songwriter’s signature road-worn axe in minute detail, down to its custom controls, dog-eared aesthetic and visible wear and tear. Sporting an aged finish and dual DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion and PAF DP-103 36th anniversary humbucking pickups, plus bound rosewood fretboard with pearloid position inlays, it hopes to replicate the actual instrument’s look and feel.

Offered in both left- and right-handed editions (Cobain preferred the former), models will also feature a “triple knurled chrome dome knob configuration,” black chrome Adjusto-Matic bridge and Stratocaster headstock shape with “‘50s-style spaghetti logo.” Or, in plain English, similar options and details as were native to Cobain’s own pride and joy.

Clearly designed for the band’s most ardent fans, the replica collectible scores greater points for authenticity than originality. But those who still worship at the altar of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” may find it a welcome gift item.

Supporting accessories will include a black vinyl hard-shell case and Fender-exclusive Kurt Cobain collector’s book with photos, commentary and interviews from Nirvana’s guitar tech.

Dave Grohl sure didn’t miss the LA show, as he can be seen moshing!:

Are you glad to see Soundgarden back?
