Today in 1992, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl played with Buzz Osborne from The Melvins under the name ‘Melvana’ live at the Crocodile Cafe in Seattle, WA.
The two were very close in the early days, played music together and even toured together, but after Kurt passed, Buzz has overtime felt annoyed of the questions he continues to get asked about Nirvana and Kurt Cobain twenty years later so he makes a joke out of it usually.
There have been many interviews where you can tell he’s jealous that Kurt and his band reached a higher fame status and made more money than his band and feels Nirvana sold-out (which never stopped them from touring with Nirvana.) Then other parts of interviews where he sort of despises Kurt for what happen, calls him a loser and believes the whole issue is a sad mess.

"What Pat added more than anything was an injection of life and happiness to those last months of Nirvana. We’d talked about getting a second guitar player, we talked about Steve Turner, we talked about Buzz Osborne, but of course we didn’t want to break up Mudhoney or the Melvins. Kurt had been in Los Angeles and walked into the SST Superstore where Pat was working, and they hit it off. One of the first rehearsals, we were trying to figure out ‘The Man Who Sold The World’ and the three of us just couldn’t do it. Pat said, “Actually, it goes like this.” I thought, ‘There’s a musician in the band now!’ Having Pat changed things dramatically. Kurt and Courtney were on that side of town and Krist and I were on this side of town, and Pat definitely bridged us back together for awhile." - Dave Grohl.

The Melvins have always been a busy bunch, issuing new recordings at a rapid pace. The new year will be no different, as a pair of new Melvins releases will hit the streets by summer. March 13th will see the release of an EP, Scion A/V Presents: The Bulls & the Bees (available as a free download via ScionAV.com), and on June 5th Ipecac Records will issue the full-length Freak Puke.
What about collaborating with ex-Nirvana bassist/onetime Melvins roadie Krist Novoselic? "We would love to record with Krist," says Osborne. "That would be great. I don’t know what is going on with him – I see him and talk to him once in a while, but the ex-Nirvana guys, I really don’t have much to do with. It’s not because I don’t want to. Those guys are busy doing whatever it is they’re doing."
3. “Milk It” Of course I like this song! Of course I like it because it’s a total, TOTAL ripoff of a song I wrote called “It’s Shoved.” It’s on our Bullhead record which I think came out in ’91… Listen to both back to back and then tell me if I’m crazy… Well, I am crazy, but not because of…
"Buzz Osborne, guitar player from the Melvins, he like, discovered punk rock, and uh, he was turning people on to it. I heard it, and uh, it sounded live to me, and then um I borrowed the record Generic Flipper, and I listened to it, and it just, it was like a revelation. It was like ‘wow!’, it was just heavy, it was art, I was affected, and I’ve never been the same since. It was like a breakthrough." - Krist Novoselic.
